  • When I realized CFNL was the place to go: The coaches, people and the support that everyone offers. I never leave the gym saying that workout was EASY, I am always challenged to improve. I may not be the best or strongest at the gym but the community keeps me coming back.
  • Favorite CrossFit movement: Back Squats
  • Least Favorite CrossFit movement: RUNNING (I know everyone is shocked!)
  • Perfect WOD: Any team workout adds pressure for me to push myself and work a little harder!
  • One thing I hope to accomplish at CFNL: String pull-ups together, double-unders and running (which is still my least favorite movement!)
  • What motivates me during a CrossFit WOD: The coaches and other athletes in the gym! Just when I feel like giving up there is always someone offering words of encouragement that help me push past my comfort level!

May - Athlete of the Month

Ryan Frankovich - 30

May Athlete of the Month

  • Where I grew up: I was born in Great Falls, MT and moved to Salt Lake City, UT when I was five.
  • What I do when I am not at CFNL: I am a pretty major nerd. Video games, board games, comics. Sports are big, too. Basketball, first and foremost. On top of that, my father and I are in the process of rebuilding a 1976 Ford Bronco. It is the model my grandfather drove, and I have had a love for them as far back as I can remember. The most important thing, though, is my little one year old Nash. He surprises me daily with how quickly he learns. I look forward to teaching him whatever I can and watching him find out what he loves.
  • How I found out about CFNL: My brother was the first to join and convinced me to check it out.
  • When I realized CFNL was the place to go: My first CrossFit workout was on a Tuesday, and it included a section with tabata programming. I'm not ashamed to say it wrecked me. Somehow, I drug myself back two days later though, and I knew I was hooked. It is a competitive outlet. It is something I have missed and something I look forward to every day.
  • Favorite CrossFit movement: It is actually a tie between the snatch and the muscle up. Both moves are very strange and very new to me. I love the challenge involved.
  • Least Favorite CrossFit movement: There's nothing I really hate doing, but I would say that double unders are the movement I am excited about the least. The problem here is, whenever I feel comfortable doing them is exactly when I forget how to do them. Muscle memory hasn't kicked in just yet. Running. Hand's down, running is the worst.
  • Perfect WOD: Any team WOD. Having a partner adds motivation to push yourself past what is comfortable. Bodyweight movements mixed with cleans or snatches.
  • One thing I hope to accomplish at CFNL: As far as movements go, I want to snatch 200lbs and I want to rep muscle ups consecutively. More so than anything, though, I want CrossFit to be a means to keep me healthy and active. I want to be able to play with my son and move normally when I get older. Lifelong health and happiness is the biggest thing CrossFit could give.
  • What motivates me during a CrossFit WOD: The whiteboard is a gift and a curse, and I love seeing my name written on there. It is a huge motivator to be good at what I do. I would be lying if I didn't say just being done and going home wasn't a major thought, either.
  • Complete these sentences:
    • I like… football, basketball, video games, paddle boarding, rafting, reading occasionally
    • I eat… I love chicken, pretty much any way it can be cooked. Cupcakes are a close second
    • I do… everything. I have never been one to say no to something. At least not the first time I try.
    • I am… Uncomfortable in social situations, unless I know the person/people. I can be incredibly shy.
